What is Knowledge?
It is reported from Al-Awzâ’î that he said:
Knowledge is what has come from the Companions of Allah’s Messenger – sallallâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam; and what has not come from them is not knowledge.
Al-Dhahabî , Siyar A’lâm Al-Nubalâ` in his biography of Al-Awzâ’î. Ibn ‘Asâkir, Târîkh Dimishq Vol.35 p201.

As-salaamu Alaykum, Could you please elaborate on this Saying of Al-Awza' i', as to whether it is conlcusive or complementary to other knowledge as that from the present and passed Scholars. I am just a bit confused and would like some clarification. JazakAllahu Khayran
Wa alaykumus-salam,
It means whatever is not based on the knowledge of the Sahabah is not considered knowledge in the true sense. So any beliefs, statements or opinions that have no basis in the way the Companions understood Islam are not to be considered knowledge, whoever they come from.
