The Sunni Sinner and the Devout Heretic

‘Abdullâh the son of Al-Imâm Ahmad reports that his father, Al-Imâm Ahmad, said, “The graves of Ahl Al-Sunnah who committed major sins are gardens (from Paradise) whilst the graves of the heretics (adherents of Bid’ah) who were ascetics are pits (from the Fire). The sinners from Ahl Al-Sunnah are the beloved (awliyâ`) of Allâh, whereas the ascetics of Ahl Al-Bid’ah are the enemies of Allâh.”

Ibn Abî Ya’lâ, Tabaqât Al-Hanâbilah Vol. 1 p182.

JazaakAllah khayr akhi for this highly beneficial website. I had a question though…in one of your comments u mentioned that as a rule, this website has the sayings of the Salaf (Sahabah, Tabi'een & atba ut Tabi'een). In that regard, can u please let me know which Tabi'ee did Imam Ahmed rahimahullah meet to be considered from the Atba ut Tabi'een? BaarakAllahu feekum.

Walaikum Salam Warahmathullahu wabarakathuhu. I understood it this way then Allahu A'lam.

The sinners of ahlussunnah after commiting sins repent to Allah Subhanawat'ala so if Allah wills he forgives them.

As for the sinners of bid'a they continue dioing the Sin (bid'a thinking that it is sunnah) therefor they dont realise to be repented!! and the sin groves.

    Wallahu A'lam

As salamu alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh,

In Surah Al 'Imran: Ayah 135- 136, the Muhsinun (doers of good) are described as the following- translated meaning in English:

''And those who, when they have committed Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse) or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins;- and none can forgive sins but Allah- and do not persist in what wrong they have done, while they know.''

''For such, the reward is forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is the reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah's orders).''

In the Tafsir of Ibn Katheer regarding these verses and the Muhsinun it is stated:

''They repent from their error, return to Allah before death, do not insist on error, and if they err again, they repent from it.''

So this is the condition of Ahlus-Sunnah, ( those who perform righteous deeds according to Allah's orders) whenever they commit sins they repent, this is in opposition to the Ahl- Bid'ah who fail to repent from their sinful innovations as they actually believe that they are performing good deeds.
    And Allah knows best.
