There was an increase of wealth coming in during Umar's Caliphate. He lived a very simple life, not gathering wealth around him. He wanted to remind Hafsah that he was going to remain upon this way, the way of the Prophet and Abu Bakr, in the hope of being with them in Jannah. Hafsah cried as she was reminded of her days as the wife of Allah's Messenger - Allah's praise and peace be upon him. Wa alaykumus-salam.
