The qaylulah (mid-day rest) is originally a rest taken during the hottest part of the day, which is before the time we should pray Dhuhr prayer, because this is to be done after the sun has passed its highest point in the sky, as indicated in a number of ahadith. So the normal time of qaylulah is before Dhuhr. The exception is on Jumu'ah, as Al-Bukhari and Muslim record that the Companions never used to take this rest until after they had prayed Jumu'ah. They would then take lunch and rest. Scholars point out that this was because the Companions were keen not to miss the virtue of getting ready for Jumu'ah by bathing and leaving early to pray as much as possible before the khutbah.
Allah knows best.

From Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) said, “Take an afternoon nap, for the shayaateen do not take an afternoon nap.” (as-Saheehah no. 1647).

Do you know what the Salaf have said with regards to which is preferable - to take the nap before Dhuhr or after Dhuhr?
