The Sunnah v. what people do
It is reported that ‘Abdullâh b. Al-Hasan used to often sit with Rabî’ah. One day they were revising and studying various practices from the Sunnah when a man in the gathering said, “[But] this is not what is practiced [by the people].” ‘Abdullah said, “So if the ignorant become so numerous that they become the rulers and judges, will they then be a proof over the Sunnah?” Rabî’ah said, “I bear witness that these are the words of the sons of the Prophets.”

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah, Alone, who has no partner. I bear witness that Muhammad ibn Abdullaah is His 'abd and final messenger.
We chase the people away by our actions, not the actions of making the salawat, or giving zakat/ sadaqa, but by our actions that go against the Qur'aan and the sunnah. We make things hard when they do not have to be. We even chase our own away, by demanding things that may be our right, but optional.
Oh people, fear Allaah and make that which is lawful, easy.
Oh Allaah, other than whom there is NO might, no power, make our worship sincere for You. Ameen.
